Crystal Palace eye move for Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong

Crystal Palace are keen to sign Chelsea defender Josh Acheampong in the January transfer window. 

According to Sky Sports, Acheampong has emerged as a potential target for Palace this month. 

The Eagles lost Marc Guehi to Manchester City, who spent a £20 million fee to land the highly-rated England international. 

They aim to replace Guehi and believe Acheampong to be a good fit. 

The 19-year-old is highly versatile, as he can fill in as a centre-back, right-back or in midfield. 

He is outstanding in the air and excels at playing out from the back.  

No formal discussions have reportedly taken place between the clubs, and it is unclear if Chelsea would sanction a permanent or a temporary exit this month. 

The Blues sacked Enzo Maresca as head coach after a complete breakdown in relations with the club’s hierarchy. 

Liam Rosenior has been installed as Maresca’s replacement, and the former Strasbourg boss led his team to their first Premier League victory against Brentford last weekend. 

Chelsea were expected to focus on outgoings this month, but it appears they are in the market for a centre-back and possibly a midfielder. 

They have set their sights on France Under-21 international Jeremy Jacquet, but Rennes are demanding a £60m fee for their prized asset. 

The West Londoners are also looking to sign Douglas Luiz on loan due to injury issues of Romeo Lavia and Dario Essugo. 

Chelsea could sanction a sale for Axel Disasi and Raheem Sterling, but Acheampong is also attracting interest from Palace. 

The 19-year-old has made 31 appearances since making his debut against Tottenham Hotspur in May 2024. 

But he hasn’t played as much as he would have wanted this season and could push for a move in January for more game time.
