League 1 club keen to sign Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori

Chelsea defender Fikayo Tomori is linked with a move to League 1 club Stade Rennes. Chelsea are in talks with a number of clubs for the 22-year-old, generating a bidding war. [source: L’Equipe]

Tomori is highly rated across the English channel. A youth product of the famed Chelsea Academy, Tomori has been loaned out three times- Brighton (2016-17), Hull City (2017-18) and Derby County (2018-19). After a successful stint at Derby under manager Frank Lampard, he was finally given a run to play for Chelsea at the start of the 2019/20 season.

But as the league progressed, his appearances dried up before eventually hitting a wall- his last appearance came in the 2-2 draw against Bournemouth in February.

The defender made 22 appearances this season including 4 in the Champions League. Tomori who is only 22-years-old has already played 100+ matches of first-team football-including 78 games in the Championship. He has also been awarded a single cap for the England National Team which came against Kosova in November 2019.

According to the same source, Rennes are determined to sign Fikayo Tomori and they have made the English defender a priority signing this summer. The Chelsea player could benefit from a spell at the Ligue 1 side. Rennes have qualified for the Champions League and promise of regular first-team football could be tempting to the youngster. However, a transfer looks improbable with the player being tied to Chelsea till 2024. A loan move could be on the cards for him.
