Championship side Stoke City are closing in on an agreement to sign former Chelsea midfielder John Obi Mikel over on a one-year deal.
The former Nigeria captain, 33, is a free agent having left Turkish side Trabzonspor by mutual consent in March.
Stoke have been in talks with John Obi Mikel for a couple of weeks and have convinced him to put pen on paper.
John Obi Mikel made 249 Premier League appearances for Chelsea in an 11-year spell, which ended when he left Stamford Bridge in 2017.
Mikel played key roles in helping Chelsea win two Premier League titles and the Champions League – as well as three FA Cups and the Europa League.
Stoke boss Michael O’Neill is convinced that Mikel is the key to his plan and has convinced the midfielder to join Sunderland in an ambitious push to steady the side after a few shaky seasons.
Go get em Mikel!
