Reliable Leeds United journalist Phil Hay of The Athletic has said than Leeds United are in the race to sign a top Premier League striker.
Recently promoted Championship side are in the market this summer looking for top players who can handle the vigor and the grit of the Premier League. They have reportedly found their man in Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi.
Batshuayi signed for Chelsea in the summer of 2016 for
a fee of £33 million and has found it hard to nail down a starting spot at the
Stamford Bridge-based club scoring eight Premier League goals in 48 league
appearances.
He had a better run in the team last season, playing 24
games in all competitions and scoring six goals.
He also had three loan deals at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace respectively. He failed to show his brilliance in any of the clubs.
Batshuayi undoubtedly has ability but hasn’t been able
to showcase the best of his talents in the Premier League. His loan at Crystal
Palace saw him score five goals in 11 games for the Eagles which is a good
ratio having joined in January 2019.
Batshuayi already knows Marcelo Beisla from his stint at Marseille. The Belgian showed the best performances of his career under the Argentine Manager.
The situation is in Leed’s favour that could keep the fee down is that Batshuayi’s contract expires next season. Lampard looks to rebuild his side and have already signed Timo Werner from RB Leipzig. Batshuayi has no role to play. Instead of letting him go for free, the Blues should sell him to raise some funds for funding other transfers.
