If the transfer rumours are to be believed, Chelsea are in the market for a new left-back to shore up their defense for next season.
The club have already made several attacking transfers for next season in Timo Werner and Hakim Ziyech. Frank Lampard’s plans have shifted to revamp the defense. Emerson is expected to go back to Italy this summer. Marcos Alonso’s inept defending skills make him less reliable.
It seems that Lampard has found his man in Sergio Reguilon.
ESPN reports that Reguilon and the club are in talks to come to terms for a move this summer.
The Spanish international has been without a doubt one of the best left-backs in Europe this season. On-loan from Real Madrid at Sevilla, he’s causing whirlwind with his performances.
At Real Madrid, Ferland Mendy is preferred by Zinedine Zidane. Veteran Marcelo is expected to be the second choice. Reguilon is not needed at Santiago Bernabeu. He is a surplus to Real. Selling him makes a lot of sense for the Galacticos.
Sevilla are impressed by his performance and would like to close the deal on a permanent basis. However, sources have told ESPN the player prefers to test himself with a new challenge in the Premier League.
Sky Sports Italy reported that Napoli are in talks to sign Reguilon too. However, La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that Real have rejected their first bid of €15m.
Chelsea are in s strong position here as Reguilon’s agent Kia Joorabchian and Chelsea are in good terms. Joorabchian also represents Joelson Fernandes, another Chelsea target for this summer.
Reports came last week that Real Madrid will offload players to raise €200m in this transfer window. Achraf Hakimi has already been sold. Reguilon is next. Real’s asking price is said to be around €25m for Reguilon.
Chelsea can easily splash out €25m and secure his services. This will be another masterstroke by Marina Granovskaia and her team.
