Chelsea are back in FA Cup action with Manchester United standing between the Blues and another Cup final appearance. The top-four race is nearing a conclusion, and this is a chance for Chelsea to take a break from that and attempt to take a step closer to silverware.
Formation: 3-4-3
Goalkeeper
Willy Caballero will be hoping to get another game under his belt as cup action is generally when he has been used. Kepa Arrizabalaga has continued to struggle in confidence, but with a five day break prior to tie, I think the Spaniard will start.
Back three and wing-backs.
I’ve said before that Marcos Alonso is better suited to the wing-back role. A change of system could upset Manchester United’s plans of exploiting Chelsea. Reece James is a perfect fit for the same role on the right. Playing with three centre-backs should solidify any aerial problems. Defending is our Achilles heel this season. Cesar Azpilicueta alongside Kurt Zouma, and Antonio Rudiger are my choice to play at centre-back. Fikayo Tomori is back, but short of match fitness, and Andreas Christensen looks the worst as far as form is concerned. Although in truth we’ve looked poor at the back whoever plays.
Midfield
N’Golo Kante has been ruled out yet again. A huge blow considering what the Frenchman offers. We aren’t short of midfield options, but this formation only allows to use two central options. I’ve gone for a Mateo Kovacic, and Mason Mount pairing. Kovacic offers bite, and Mount can get forward and create.
Front three
Not for the first time the three-pronged attack as good as picks it self. On form it’s easy to play Christian Pulisic on the left, Willian on the right, and Olivier Giroud in the middle.
United have wobbled a little in their last two fixtures. There’s no doubt we will create chances, but must make sure we take them. Defensively we need to be at our best with the Red Devils really turning it on as an attacking force since the restart. Prediction: I can see goals, goals, and goals. Chelsea 3 Manchester United 2.
