Chelsea eyeing up young Liverpool and Manchester target – Compared to Michael Ballack

Chelsea have already made one key signing after Hakim Ziyech was confirmed in February. There’s no doubt more will follow, and the current suspension of football across the globe has led to more and more links and rumours coming about than normal.

Philippe Coutinho has been continually linked with returning to the Premier League after failing at Barcelona. Now the Blues are reportedly looking at other options.

One such option reported by the Daily Mail (via The Athletic) is 20-year-old, Kai Havertz. The Bayer Leverkusen forward is highly rated in Germany having nailed down a first-team spot, after coming through the youth ranks at Leverkusen.

The youngster has made 139-appearances, scoring 38-goals already. He has also been capped seven-times at international level.

Havertz is technically gifted, capable of delivering with both feet. German legend Rudi Voller has likened him to former Blue Michael Ballack, and Arsenal midfielder, Mesut Ozil. He told Kicker:

“He is clearly the (standout) German player of the next ten years. I think he’s a mix of Michael Ballack and Mesut Ozil.”

Many clubs have looked at Havertz. More recently Liverpool were linked with making a move for the youngster. A fee of around £100m is quoted, so he wouldn’t come cheap. However, Frank Lampard is intent on building a young squad for us to compete long-term. Of course there is also the need for experience within the ranks, but Havertz has the ability to be a huge success at Stamford Bridge.

As stated previously, Liverpool are interested. They’re not the only ones though. Manchester United are another premier league club showing an interest.

Blue is the colour is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
