It’s certainly a time for odd rumours to rear their head at the moment. It’s common knowledge that Willian’s contract expires at the end of the season. It is also well known that the Brazilian loves London and would prefer to stay in England with his family.
It’s been well publicised that Tottenham and Arsenal are both interested in the winger. The opportunity to stay in the capital and link up with former boss, Jose Mourinho, or best mate, David Luiz, could prove pulling power.
Another English club has now reportedly joined the race. According to Sports Witness, citing Spanish publication, Sport. Willian is wanted by Jurgen Klopp at Lvierpool. Now Merseyside is a fair old distance from London. However, there’s no reason why he couldn’t spend part of the week up north and part of his week in London. The commute wouldn’t be that difficult.
The report is more about Coutinho’s possible move to Chelsea, but it does suggest Liverpool could offer Willian a good financial package to persuade him to move to Anfield. Also as much as it pains me to say, Liverpool would also prove a good proposition for him to add to his impressive list of honours.
Willian has always split some Blues fans over how good or bad he has been. In truth he has been a great servant to the club. A move to any of the three rivals would be disappointing for most Chelsea fans.
At the end of the day he’ll be out of contract and free to go wherever he wants. This rumour does seem a little random, and I couldn’t see him getting much game time at Liverpool. Although he would prove a good squad addition to whoever he ultimately joins next season.
