After a disappointing midweek defeat to Bayern Munich. All eyes will be on Frank Lampard’s team selection, as the Blues head to the south coast tomorrow afternoon to face Bournemouth. Kick off: 3pm (GMT)
Willy Caballero has had a run of games, but Kepa Arrizabalaga has to return sooner or later surely. Playing him now is the perfect opportunity for him to shine.
Fikayo Tomori and Kurt Zouma will both be itching for a chance. Antonio Rudiger appears to be Lampard’s number one choice as far as the centre back position is concerned. Andreas Christensen has certainly improved since playing regularly, but I feel Tomori deserves to show what he has to offer again. Cesar Azpilicueta as captain is likely to continue as part of a back three.
It goes without saying that Reece James deserves to start. Marcos Alonso didn’t have the best game against Bayern, but impressed in last weekend’s win against Tottenham. For that reason they should both start this weekend.
With N’Golo Kante out again, Mateo Kovacic, and Jorginho as good as certain to start. Lampard could consider resting the former and may opt for Ross Barkley. However, I can see it being aforementioned pairing in the middle of the park.
Tammy Abraham is ruled out after a recurrence of the knock that has kept him out recently. Christian Pulisic, and Callum Hudson-Odoi also remain sidelined. Olivier Giroud is likely to start. I predict Mason Mount, and Willian will be the attacking options alongside the Frenchman. Ruben Loftus-Cheek is likely to feature at some point, after nine-months out. However, a start is too soon for his rehabilitation.
