‘It will be an open game which we will enjoy’ – Champions League winner in buoyant mood ahead of Bayern Munich test

Mateo Kovacic is having a great season. Last year many Blues fans were not that impressed by the Croatian. This campaign the 25-year-old has thrived under the leadership of Frank Lampard.

Ahead of Chelsea’s champions league, round-of-16 clash with the Bundesliga giants, Kovacic was buoyant about the club’s chances of progressing to the next round.

Talking at the pre-match press conference, Kovacic feels there isn’t much between the two sides. Quoted by chelseafc.com, he said:

“We have a good team, they do as well, but there is not much difference between us and Bayern.”

The three-time champions league winner is confident the Blues are ready to compete after the enjoyment of Saturday’s win against Tottenham.

“The Champions League is beautiful to play and we can show ourselves again, like we did against Tottenham. It will be tough but we are prepared. Every one of us likes these big games, so I hope we will enjoy the game.”

Kovacic feels Bayern have had it easy due to the gulf in class between the Bundesliga, and the premier league.

“The strength of the Premier League means Bayern will be more rested than us.”

He certainly feels Chelsea players will have no problem giving their all this evening.

“Enjoyment is key, matches of this magnitude are the easiest to get up for.”

“They will play as we will. It will be an open game which we will enjoy.”

The former Real Madrid man could prove a key asset tonight. His experience of these high-profile fixtures is second to none. Also his unquestionable abilty can help the Blues command the midfield. A positive result to take to the Allianz would be another huge lift as we draw closer to the business end of the season.
