Real Madrid are to step up their interest in Chelsea midfielder, N’Golo Kante next summer, with claims that Isco will be offered to the Blues as part of the deal.
Spanish media source, El Desmarque (via Daily Express), claim Zinedine Zidane wants the Frenchman at the Bernabeu next season.
Kante joined Chelsea in 2016 from Leicester City, proving an important part of Blues 2016/17 title winning season. The 28-year-old has also claimed FA Cup, and Europa League success during his three-and-a-half-years at Stamford Bridge.
Regarded by many as the best defensive-midfielder in the world, Kante has played in a more advanced role in recent years. Having missed a large part of this season through injury, the France international has found it difficult to regain his form.
Isco would offer another attacking option to Chelsea. The Spaniard would offer creativity, as well as versatility, having been deployed in a number of roles during his career.
The 27-year-old has fallen out of favour at Real Madrid this season, mainly appearing from the bench. A move to Chelsea would offer him an escape route, and an opportunity to prove himself in another league.
Losing a player of Kante’s ability seems unthinkable, but if he isn’t being deployed in his strongest position there’s a chance Chelsea will consider the deal. The report also suggests Frank Lampard is keen on Isco, so the Blues could see this as an opportunity to let the club legend mould his own team.
Following January’s frustrations. A meaningful signing would appease both fans, and Lampard himself. The Blues boss looked a frustrated figure as the transfer window slammed shut. However, the thought of losing Kante won’t appeal to every fan.
