New Chelsea signing likened to Cristiano Ronaldo – Blues beat off Manchester United interest

Chelsea have officially completed the signing of 16-year-old winger, Edwin Andersson. The youngster has been on the Blues radar for some time, but was unable to complete the move until he turned sixteen.

IFK Gothenburg academy boss, Jonas Olsson has admitted that Chelsea have beaten off competition to clinch the youngsters signing. He told the Swedish club’s website:

“We would have liked to have seen him stay with us but that he is being recruited to Chelsea is a good mark on our business”.

The Metro are reporting that Andersson was wanted by premier league rivals, Manchester United. The 16-year-old has been likened to a former United player, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Mikael Andersson told Expressen last year that they had received plenty of interest in his son. He said:

“There have been an incredible number of clubs from virtually all countries that have been interested in him”.

He is also quoted as comparing the youngster wingers style to a current Chelsea player, and footballing great, Cristiano Ronaldo. He added:

“He’s pretty much like Callum Hudson-Odoi at Chelsea. When he was younger, he was a little more like Ronaldo. He mainly stays on the left”.

It appears to be somewhat of a coup for Chelsea. Let’s hope Andersson can become half the player of the Juventus man. All being well, with Frank Lampard’s desire to bring through youth, we could see the Swede running out for the first-team on the not to distant future.
