‘Frank has been let down by the club’- Frustration for Chelsea fans, as some vent anger at lack of January transfer activity

It’s been a long old month for Chelsea fans as the transfer window has gone from links to top players to the final day without any signings.

Edinson Cavani, Dries Mertens, Moussa Dembele, Krzysztof Piatek and others have divided opinion over the last month.

A new striker with the likelihood of Olivier Giroud departing has been the main talking point throughout January. Other areas have also no doubt been a hot topic of conversation amongst Blues fans.

Now with only hours remaining of the window it looks a safe bet that Stamford Bridge will not be seeing any new faces this month. Incredibly that will mean that only Mateo Kovacic has been officially signed over the course of two transfer windows.

The transfer ban appeal last month took excitement levels up a notch as fans predicted who the Blues might sign. The press also reported a £150m kitty would be available to Frank Lampard.

But here we are at the end of January with frustration being felt by many. The expectancy took over with fans feeling the need to strengthen. It also became obvious Lampard was keen to add to his squad.

Now in all fairness January can be a difficult time to sign top targets. Only big money can achieve the very best. In fact you could say there’s a ‘January premium’, as clubs don’t want to lose their top stars at the midway point of the campaign.

Some fans are angry at the lack of new blood, but we also don’t want to see panic buys, as the past has not been particularly fruitful as far a surprise late signings are concerned.

Frank Lampard speaking at today’s press conference ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Leicester City as good as confirmed we won’t be seeing any new personnel.

Lampard said:

“The window is 95% shut for us. The answer will be no to the players you are saying.”

There’s still a chance, but realistically this confirms it. Although the club legend doesn’t say 100%, the remaining 5% is most likely referring to loan moves or the departure of Tariq Lamptey.

Lamptey moving on is another downside to the window. However, if we’re being honest, he’s behind the impressive Reece James in the pecking order.

Here’s how some fans have reacted to the latest news regarding the transfer window…

Looking on the bright side – The club will surely go all out to negotiate top targets ahead of the summer window. I’m sure the press will announce we have an astronomical amount to spend after keeping the purse strings right this month.
