Chelsea confirm Sale of young star

Chelsea have confirmed the departure of young defender Tariq Lamptey. The 19-year-old has joined premier league rivals Brighton and Hove Albion for an undisclosed fee (believed to be £4.5m according to Daily Mail) on a three-and-half-year deal.

The Hillingdon-born defender made his debut for the Blues over the Christmas period. Making a good contribution in a 2-1 victory at Arsenal. Frank Lampard was full of praise for the youngster.

He said:

“It is a tough game to come on with the responsibility to try to turn it, and Jody said yeah, no problem, and when he drove inside and slipped Tammy in for a shot, it was a great example of someone coming on a bit fearless and sometimes you get that with youth.”

He has since figured from the bench in the FA Cup ties against Nottingham Forest, and Hull City.

On an internatonal level, Lamptey has been capped at England u18, u19, and u20 level. He was part of the u19 squad at the European Championships last year.

Lamptey joined The Blues at eight-years-old. Progressing through the youth ranks, winning honours along the way.

Tariq has the qualities to become a top right-back. It’s sad to see a promising youngster leave, but in truth he has Reece James in front of him in the pecking order. Best of luck to him, and who knows he might one day end up back at Stamford Bridge.
