Olivier Giroud linked with surprise move to Tottenham

Olivier Giroud leaving Chelsea has looked nailed on throughout the January transfer window. First it looked like a move to Inter Milan was as good as done. Then Aston Villa became a serious contender for his signature as the Inter move stalled.

Now it’s rivals Tottenham who appear to be in the race for the Frenchman’s services. Now the fact he’s not only a Chelsea player, but also an ex-Arsenal would suggest it’s unlikely. However, the rumour comes from Sky Italy’s trusted transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio.

The Italian claims Spurs are willing to offer the 33-year-old an 18-month deal to cross London again. The striker has fallen down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge, behind Tammy Abraham, and Michy Batshuayi.

Chelsea’s search for another striker is no secret. Edinson Cavani looked likely only a week ago, but Krzysztof Piatek has emerged as a realistic target in the past 24-hours. As a strange twist, Tottenham had been linked with a move for the Polish striker, but have baulked at the £30m asking price.

You can’t rule out the possibility of Giroud linking up with Jose Mourinho, even if it’s unlikely. But let’s just say the next few days could throw up a surprise or two as the Blues await their first signing.
