Joe Cole: ‘He’s got so much ability’ – Former Chelsea man urges the Blues to consider Wolves star

Chelsea are being continually linked with adding to their striking options. A loan move for Edinson Cavani, Lyon’s Moussa Dembele, even Russian striker Fyodor Chalov. However, it’s a player already in the premier league that has caught the attention of former Chelsea star, Joe Cole.

Cole is surprised that none of the top clubs have taken a look at Raul Jimenez after the form he has shown in the premier league.

The Mexican hitman starred for Wolves last season as they impressively finished in 7th-place in the league. The former Benfica man scored 17-goals in 44-appearances, thirteen of which helped Wolves to their highest league finish since 1980.

This season, the 28-year-old has found the back of the net on 20-occasions already. His latest coming in this evenings narrow defeat to league leaders Liverpool.

Talking to BT Sport, (via the metro) Cole waxed lyrical about his love for the quality shown by Jimenez. He said:

“Wolves fans won’t thank me for saying it but if I’m Chelsea, Tottenham and Manchester United and you’ve got a chequebook ready to go, he’s the first name”.

Cole rates the Mexican highly, he added:

“For me, he could quite easily play for any one of those teams because he’s got so much ability. He’s one of my favourite players to watch”.

The former England man feels he could be persuaded to leave Molineux:

“It’s all well and good being part of a project but when Manchester United, Chelsea and Tottenham come for you, it may turn your head”.

Jimenez is a player I would love to see at Chelsea, but Wolves have no desire to sell their £30m signing. It would take a huge bid for them to even consider cashing in. At his age he’s realistically at his peak. But if he was to move and replicate the form he’s shown in the West-midlands, he’d certainly offer great value. He’s a character that would be a fan favourite in next to no time.

Although I agree with Cole, I can’t see Chelsea entertaining a move for Jimenez. Although as we enter the final week of the January transfer window, what the Blues do is anyone’s guess.
