Chelsea youngster set to sign new long-term deal

Young Chelsea defender Tariq Lamptey will commit his future to the West-London club, according to reports.

Lamptey made his first appearance, coming off the bench to play a significant role in the Blues turnaround at Arsenal over the festive period. The 19-year-old went on to make his home debut in a 2-0 FA Cup win against Nottingham Forest last weekend.

The AthleticUK reporter Dominic Fifield is claiming a deal is in place, with Lamptey ready to sign a long-term contract.

French club Nice have shown an interest, as reported by The Telegraph, earlier this week.

Lamptey joined the Blues at six-years-old, progressing through the youth ranks. These are exciting times for young players at Stamford Bridge. Tammy Abraham, Mason Mount, Reece James, and Fikayo Tomori have all established themselves as first-team regulars this season.

Other youngsters such as Billy Gilmour, and Marc Guehi have also gained first-team action under the management of Frank Lampard.

A lot of Chelsea’s success has to be attributed to the Blues assistant manager Jody Morris. Morris is a Blue through and through and a former youth team manager. He has worked with a lot of these players from a young age.

Chelsea also have a number of promising youngsters out on loan. Most notably Ethan Ampadu, and Conor Gallagher. Guehi joined the loan army this week, after agreeing a move to Swansea City.

Lamptey could yet find his short-term future lies elsewhere. But for now it’s important this reported new deal is signed and sealed, as the youngster sees his current deal expire at the end of the season.
