‘We need more competition in those creative areas’ – Chelsea boss fuels Jadon Sancho speculation

Frank Lampard has fueled speculation that a move for Jadon Sancho is imminent. Following the Blues 2-1 victory against Lille – a win that secured Chelsea’s passage to the last-16 of the Champions League, the Chelsea boss spoke in his post-match press conference about the upcoming January transfer window.

Lampard admitted the Blues are looking at options: (via BBCSPORT)

“There will be discussions about where we can strengthen.”

One improvement Lampard wants to make is in the final third. The club legend feels Eden Hazard hasn’t been replaced.

‘It is quite clear in the summer we lost Eden Hazard who has been a huge part of scoring and creating for us in the last few seasons. We need more competition in those creative areas.”

The Blues defensive issues look to be a more pressing problem to solve, but talk of finding more potency going forward adds to the rumours of Chelsea attempting to persuade Borrussia Dortmund to part with the 19-year-old next month. A £100m record bid is expected to tempt Sancho to swap the Bundesliga for a premier league return.

Sancho admitted recently that Lampard was one of his heroes growing up. A chance to work with him could be too good to turn down.

Willian is yet to sign a new deal, with his current contract expiring next summer. Pedro is in a similar situation, although the Spaniard has been frozen out this season, and is likely to prefer a January move. Christian Pulisic is having a good season since arriving from Dortmund himself. Callum Hudson-Odoi has made a slow start since returning from a lengthy layoff. Wilfried Zaha is another option, but it’s likely to be one or the other.

Overall, a move for Sancho makes perfect sense. He fits the bill with Lampard’s integration of young players, setting up a bright future at Stamford Bridge.
