Chelsea fans have rejoiced at the news of the club’s two-window transfer embargo being reduced to just one. The Blues were originally found guilty of 150 different FIFA rule violations, with regards to the transfer of minors. FIFA banned the club from registering players for two-windows last February.
An appeal to FIFA was met with failure in May, leading The Blues to take further action by appealing to CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport). A hearing took place on 20th November with the outcome announced yesterday afternoon. The judgement now means Chelsea can sign players this coming January, having already served the one window ban, last summer.
An official club statement released on Chelseafc.com shed more light on the club’s feelings following the outcome.
Thanks went out to CAS for their approach regarding the appeal.
‘Chelsea is grateful to the CAS for the diligent approach that it gave this matter.’
The Blues also took a swipe at how FIFA handled the situation in comparison to other clubs…
‘Chelsea respects the importance of the work undertaken by FIFA in relation to the protection of minors and has fully cooperated with FIFA throughout its investigation. However, if FIFA continues to impose inconsistent and unequal sanctions on clubs then it will not only undermine the very purpose of the regulations, but it will also bring into doubt the game’s confidence in FIFA being able to appropriately regulate this important area.’
Chelsea fans were certainly happy, with some suggesting who the club should consider signing. Reports last month suggested the Blues will have £150m to spend. Here are a selection of fan reactions on social media:
Announce Sancho and Chilwell.

The ban was one of the best things that happened to us this season. It helped us depend on our youth instead of buying crappy players. I hope we spend wisely and remain using the youth…

It’ll be interesting what approach Chelsea take now. The youngsters that Frank Lampard has given opportunities too have worked wondered. However, there is no doubt two or three additions are needed. As long as Lampard gets a huge say in transfer targets, and other youth coming through aren’t ignored, then it’s a win-win situation for the Blues.
