Michy Batshuayi’s future is always up for debate. There’s no doubt that on his day he’s a top striker who is more than capable of firing The Blues to victory. During his three years at Chelsea, the 26-year-old has been mainly used as a super-sub, or shipped out on loan in the hope he will come back the finished article.
The highlight of his Chelsea career was firing home the winning goal at West Bromwich Albion in 2017. The strike was the clincher that confirmed Chelsea as Premier League champions under Antonio Conte.
Since then the Belgian has seen loan spells at Borussia Dortmund, Valencia and Crystal Palace. This season, back at Stamford Bridge, Batshuayi is once again playing second-string. This time to the inform Tammy Abraham. However, the 26-year-old doesn’t appear to have a problem with it. Reported by The Daily Mail, Batshuayi is more than happy, as he shared his love for the club. He said:
“I have never been a full-fledged starter, but Chelsea is my club, that’s where I feel at home, ‘It’s a club I love deeply”.
The Belgian has scored five-goals in 11-appearances this season. Not a bad return considering he’s been used from the bench.
At 26, Batshuayi is no longer a promising youngster. Will he be happy to remain a super-sub, or would a permanent move away suit the Belgium international? – It’s a tough one, but with Tammy Abraham firing in the goals, it’s unlikely he’ll ever find regular first-team football at Stamford Bridge.
Crystal Palace have been linked with bringing the striker back to Selhurst Park, as reported by Daily Express last month. During his loan spell under Roy Hodgson, the former Marseille man scored six-goals in 13-appearances.
If he’s happy to continue as a squad player, then fair enough, but all players have ambitions, so a move away looks the more likely long-term option for the Belgian to further his career.
