The January transfer window is edging ever closer, the rumours are gathering pace. Chelsea’s participation will depend on whether their two-window ban is overturned, when the appeal at CAS (Court of Arbitration for Sport) is heard tomorrow.
However, rumours will still be common place as The Blues can spend again next summer. A £150m kitty has reportedly been made available to Frank Lampard.
The latest rumour regards Genk midfielder Sander Berge. The Norwegian has made his mark with the Belgian Pro league champions, leading to clubs showing an interest in acquiring his services.
The Daily Mail are reporting Chelsea are keeping tabs on the youngster. It also states The Blues are not alone in their pursuit. Both Liverpool and Napoli are also vying for the youngsters signature.
The 21-year-old is a defensive midfielder. who plays with a lot of energy, having an ability to press and close down opponents in an aggressive manor. Standing at 6ft 5in, he has a strong physical presence that is a valuable attribute.
Capped on 20-occasions by Norway, Berge would add to Chelsea’s array of young talent. However, do The Blues really need another midfielder? – N’Golo Kante, Mateo Kovacic, and Jorginho are already fighting it out for two spots in Chelsea’s centre of midfield. Ethan Ampadu, on loan at RB Leipzig could be earmarked for defensive midfield role, and Reece James is another youngster capable of playing there.
Even if Frank Lampard was to alter the tactics, and play another system. You still have the likes of attacking midfielder players such as Mason Mount, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Ross Barkley to accommodate. Young loan star, Conor Gallagher is another that could well be part of the squad in the near future.
