‘He brings great leadership’, ‘workrate is amazing’ – How some fans reacted to Chelsea star’s performance against Crystal Palace

It came as a surprise to many that captain Cesar Azpilicueta was rested for yesterday’s game against Crystal Palace. Especially as The Spaniards deputy, Jorginho, was absent due to suspension.

Frank Lampard decided to hand the armband over to another experienced member of the squad, Willian. The Brazilian didn’t disappoint as Captain for day, leading The Blues to a 2-0 win over their London rivals.

After a frustrating first-half, the ex-Shaktar Donetsk man played a huge part in opening the scoring. A deft touch setting up Tammy Abraham for his 10th Premier League goal of the season.

The Blues went on to register an eighth league win of the season after Christian Pulisic continued his fine form by heading home a second with ten-minutes remaining at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea fans were impressed by the captain for the day, expressing their thoughts on social media.

Willian’s future is still unknown with his current deal expiring at the end of the season. The Brazilian’s form has been good recently. So much so he was nominated for October’s player of the month award. He could yet earn a new contract, extending his stay at Stamford Bridge beyond seven-years.

The victory meant Chelsea temporarily moved up to second in the Premier League. However, Leicester City’s 2-0 win against Arsenal has since seem them drop to third.

Chelsea sit comfortably in the Champions League places, with the top four breaking away, due a nine-point lead over fifth-placed Sheffield United. There’s still a long way to go, but it’s a big gap at this stage of the season.

Next up for Chelsea is a huge clash with Manchester City, after the international break on 23rd November. On current form, The Blues will be confident of getting something at The Etihad. An opportunity to banish last season’s disastrous 6-0 defeat to the premier league champions.
