£150m transfer kitty – Report suggests Chelsea will swoop for a host of player’s if ban is lifted

It was announced yesterday that Chelsea’s appeal against the two-window transfer ban will be heard by  CAS (The Court of Arbitration for Sport) on 20th November.

It hasn’t taken long for the rumour mill to get into full flow following the news. The Telegraph are claiming The Blues will have a £150m transfer kitty to spend should the ban be lifted.

Crystal Palace winger Wilfried Zaha, and Borussia Dortmund wide man Jadon Sancho are two names Chelsea are believed to be tracking. With Willian yet to sign a new contract, another player could be needed to fill the void. Pedro also looks out of form and his contract runs out next summer.

Lyon striker Moussa Dembele could act as a perfect replacement for Olivier Giroud, another whose current deal expires at the end of the season.

Leicester City fullback Ben Chilwell is name that is never far from being linked with Chelsea. With the uncertainty of Marcos Alonso’s defensive ability, there is no doubt the young Englishman would prove an excellent addition to the squad.

Bournemouth’s Nathan Ake is another mooted to be on his way back to Stamford Bridge in the future. The Dutchman left West-London in 2016, initially on a five-month loan. Despite returning to Stamford Bridge in January 2017, Ake made a permanent move to the south coast the following summer.

Chelsea do look well stocked at centre-back. The emergence of Fikayo Tomori, the return to form of Kurt Zouma and with Andreas Christensen, and Antonio Rudiger to return from injury, do The Blues really need to add to that area of the squad.

Frank Lampard was quizzed on his intentions should the ban be lifted. The Blues legend said:

“I think as Chelsea we will always look to improve in windows if we can, if we’re allowed to and if the players we might look at are better or we feel are worth adding to the squad”.

It doesn’t look as if Chelsea need to make wholesale changes on current form. At least not in January. Letting players have a whole season before accessing the squad next summer may be what Lampard prefers to do. However, if the right player was to become available at the right price, there’s no doubt strengthening the squad would be beneficial.
