Frank Lampard confirms injury boost for key player after League Cup defeat

Chelsea manager Frank Lampard has confirmed that midfielder N’Golo Kante will return to first-team training in the next couple of days after overcoming an adductor problem.

The Frenchman has sustained multiple niggles since the start of the current season and Lampard recently stated that the midfielder has been working individually on his fitness.

Speaking after the League Cup defeat to Manchester United, Lampard has revealed that Kante is close to making his first-team comeback and he will report to regular training ahead of the Watford clash.

Irrespective of Kante’s return, Lampard may remain more cautious with the Frenchman this time around, given he has previously suffered injury setbacks when he has been rushed into the starting lineup.

Meanwhile, the Blues saw a seven-match winning run come to an end as they suffered a 2-1 defeat to Manchester United in the League Cup fourth round on Wednesday night.

The west London giants had two-thirds of the possession during the course of the game but they struggled to make the difference in the attack with just two shots on target.

Ultimately, they were defeated by the Red Devils through an outrageous free-kick by Marcus Rashford, who managed to find the net from a staggering 35 yards.

Chelsea’s immediate focus should switch to the Premier League where they are scheduled to face bottom side Watford away from home on Saturday evening.

Lampard should revert to the regular starting combination. The likes of Willian, Mason Mount, Tammy Abraham and Fikayo Tomori should return to the starting mix.
