Injury update: Exciting Chelsea duo are very close to first-team contention

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard could have the services of both Callum Hudson-Odoi and Reece James this month with the young duo already going through regular training sessions following their respective injuries.

Hudson-Odoi suffered an Achilles tendon rupture during the Premier League clash against Burnley in April 2019 and he has since been on the recovery path following a successful surgery.

On the other hand, James sustained his ankle injury while representing the England Under 20 side at the Toulon tournament but it appears that he could make his Blues debut in the coming weeks.

While the Blues have yet to provide any official update on the fitness of the young duo, reputed Premier League expert Ben Dinnery has revealed that they are very close to returning to first-team action.

The injury analyst added that the pair could make their bow under Frank Lampard this month, if not after the current international break.

Hudson-Odoi had an impressive breakthrough season under Maurizio Sarri last term and he managed to contribute a tally of five goals and five assists from just 23 appearances for the Blues across all competitions.

The teenager’s contract with the west London giants expires at the end of the current season but Lampard has indicated that the winger will be considered as an important player once he makes his injury comeback.

James, meanwhile, is still awaiting his maiden appearance for the club but that could come sooner rather than later, considering the average form of captain and right-back Cesar Azpilicueta during the opening month of the season.
