Lukaku Trying To Secure Permanent Move Away?

I thought Lukaku’s move to West Brom was meant to be a loan deal? Clearly he must be after something more permanent – and I’ll be surprised if he hasn’t just made sure that’s exactly what he gets after the public slating he’s just given Chelsea.

The 19 year old, who for me hasn’t looked ready for our first team when he has been given the chances, appears to believe that in spite of having the likes of Daniel Sturridge, Fernando Torres and Didier Drogba at the club last season, he should have been given a greater amount of time on the pitch than he had.  In fact, he’d go as far as saying he has ‘wasted his time’ at the club and in the Chelsea football kit.

A little harsh considering he’s 19 and even in the reserves didn’t exactly force Roberto Di Matteo into making any radical decisions, yet he insists “I couldn’t see myself staying at Chelsea. I sacrificed a year of my career with them and didn’t want to put up with it any more.  I decided in March I wanted to go out on loan, and told my agent to find me a club. I am relieved to have found a solution.

On the first day of pre-season I told the manager I wanted to leave. Roberto Di Matteo told me I ought to think about Chelsea as there weren’t going to be many other strikers this season, but this is the time for me to think about myself.  I got sick of watching the others from the bench. I just played 12 games and when I was playing well, they would take me off. I lost my hunger for the game over the past year. I won’t beat about the bush – my season at Chelsea went very badly.”

Again, I don’t really see how exactly he believes he ‘sacrificed’ his career at such a young age or where else he thought he should or could have been playing but if anyone else (like me) thinks his criticism of Chelsea was harsh there, it gets even more disrespectful when he drags young individuals into it, saying “As regards getting minutes on the pitch, I wasted my time.  Last season I was in the reserves alongside a young lad who’d barely turned 15 and I asked myself what I was doing there.”

As far as I’m concerned, he may well have been compared to Didier Drogba previously in terms of physique but after that little outburst, he’s unlikely to get the opportunity to replicate the Ivorian’s achievements at Chelsea in the future.

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
