Chelsea defy all the odds

It was a memorable night for Chelsea on Tuesday evening in Barcelona when they defied all the odds and progressed to the Champions League final after beating the Spanish giants 3-2 on aggregate.

As far as those assessing the Betfair bonus were concerned, it looked like being a long evening for the London club when they found themselves 2-0 down and playing with just ten men after John Terry was sent off for a needless knee to the back of Alexis Sanchez.

With Gary Cahill having to be substituted due to injury, the away side had lost their centre back pairing with the majority of the game still to play.

However, a vital goal from Ramires just before half time meant that Chelsea went into the break knowing they would be going to the final in Munich should the result stay the same, qualifying through the away goals rule. It was a moment of genius from the Brazilian midfielder who chipped the ball over Victor Valdez with a real touch of class.

The Blues knew that keeping Barcelona quiet for 45 minutes was going to be extremely tough, but a fantastic defensive performance from Roberto Di Matteo’s side not only saw them keep Pep Guardiola’s men off the score-sheet, but score a late equaliser on the counter attack through Fernando Torres.

Those looking at betting offers will agree that there is no doubt that the English side were under pressure for almost all of the game, but the spirit and determination the players showed to not concede was remarkable.

It’s impossible to pick a stand out player from the night, each one of them were fantastic and you could see just how much it meant to them when the final whistle went.

Lionel Messi missed a penalty which was of course a massive boost but the team never lost their concentration.

Fans stayed in the ground for over an hour after the game which just proved what a fantastic night it was for the club.  This game will go down in history not only with Chelsea, but for football fans all over the world.

With this kind of performance, is the side from Stamford Bridge destine to win the competition this year?
