CHELSEA 3-0 Wolves: Report

Chelsea went into this game after not winning a home game since Everton, (lost 5-3 against Arsenal and 2-1 against Liverpool). Their form has been worrying and a win against Wolves would be a great confidence boost for the whole team.

Chelsea (4-3-3): Cech; Ivanovic, David Luiz, Terry, Cole; Ramires, Romeu, Meireles Sturridge, Drogba, Mata.

Chelsea finally got a 3-0 win over Wolves. Terry, Mata and Sturridge being the scorers. It was a much better Chelsea we saw against Wolves but there is still room for improvement.

Romeu played well in the holding midfielder role after a pass success of 92%. Mata was one of the stand out performers with a 90% pass completion and 2 assists and one goal. He played a part in all goals. Ramires also played very well; he used his pace throughout the game and causes several problems for the Wolves defence.  Romeu has proved himself to Andre Villas-Boas and I hope to see him as a regular starter.

When Torres came on in the 77th minute he played well, causing problems for Wolves at times he was unlucky to score. Chelsea controlled the game after having 59% of the possession and a pass competition of 87%. A much deserved win for Chelsea but some people will be questioning Wolves approach to the game,Mick McCarthy seemed to have told Wolves to defend despite Chelsea’s defending problems. A bad approach from Wolves and Chelsea made them pay.

The game today should be a confidence booster for the Chelsea team and lets hope they can carry this performance onto the upcoming games. Chelsea play Liverpool at home once again on Tuesday night which see’s Torres and Meireles return to their former club – Liverpool.

Andre Villas-Boas has stated he will not change his philosophy despite recent criticism, he is sticking to his “guns”, and I 100% back him in this.

Match Stats:

Possession:

Attempts on target:

Chelsea 9 – 2 Wolves

Attempts off target:

Chelsea 7 – 5 Wolves

Corners:

Chelsea 9 – 2 Wolves

Man Of The Match:

Juan Mata is clear and deserved Man Of The Match he showed real class for Chelsea today played a part in every goal, Wolves couldn’t handle him. Ramires or Romeu could claimed Man Of The Match but in my opinion it has to go to Mata, great buy from Chelsea in the summer transfer window and there is still more to come from him.
