October Preview: Conquering Everton, Arsenal and Europe

Chelsea are right on the heels of the two Manchester clubs going into the second half of October, just three points separating them from the top two. With games against Everton, QPR and Arsenal to come, the Blues have a good chance of pushing upwards in the Premier League table.

Chelsea v Everton

Chelsea return from the international break to host Everton at Stamford Bridge in the evening kickoff on Saturday. In recent years this fixture has been a tough but winnable one for Chelsea and given Everton’s problems up front, it looks set to be another tight Chelsea win.

Liverpool play United in the 12:45 kickoff on Saturday so depending on results, Chelsea could be level with the champions on points by the end of Saturday’s play.

Chelsea also travel away to Everton later in the month to play in the fourth round of the Carling Cup – a game that comes three days before the big one, Chelsea v Arsenal.

Chelsea v Arsenal

Don’t forget to get your Chelsea v Arsenal tickets before the game is completely sold out!

Arsenal don’t have the best of records away to Stamford Bridge and their start to the season (not least what they’ve done to themselves in the transfer window) means they’re currently playing as bad as they’ve ever played in the last ten years. Recently some of the young Arsenal players have spoken up to defend their manager but you’d think they would do that, given that they have been given a chance to play in the Premier League and the Champions League at high wages by the man. What you don’t see is the senior players coming out to support their manager – that lot is strictly introspective and that’s where the big issue for Arsenal lies – no one willing to take responsibility to fix matters apart from Wenger himself.

Chelsea have a different set of issues but at least they have the necessary experience and mental strength to pick off Arsenal at home. What happens in the next 2 weeks (Chelsea play QPR and Everton away before this game) will do little to change the outcome – we’re looking at a Chelsea win, not just because Chelsea are better but because Arsenal have lost these type of games even before they set foot on the pitch. You saw it at Tottenham, it’ll be the same at Stamford Bridge.

Chelsea in the Champions League

Chelsea have back to back Champions League matches against Genk, a relatively comfortable double-header that should net them all 6 points, allow Villas-Boas to give the squad players playing time and (hopefully) get some of the younger players on the pitch as well.
