Andre Villas-Boas Here For The Long Haul?

I’ve had several conversations recently about Chelsea managers, mainly linked to our current boss and whether or not he’ll be staying longer than the usual season or two, and I’ve stuck by my belief from the start of the season that Andre Villas-Boas is far less likely than his predecessors to get the boot.

I’m sure there were more than a few doubters given the Manchester club’s both started at a gallop whilst we seemed to think a leisurely jog would do.  But, as they say, the Premier League is a marathon not a sprint and for me, Villas-Boas could have what it takes to go the distance.

That’s not to say I think we’ll have the title this season or anything because it’ll take Villas-Boas time to create his own Chelsea side from the one he inherited but he’s already making his mark and he’s not afraid to assert himself when he needs to – yet does it without the the any Mourinho-esque pantomime antics.

Bruce Buck seems to agree our current manager could well be the one to rival Wenger and Fergie, in terms of length of time in office at least, saying “We do envy Arsene Wenger at Arsenal and Sir Alex Ferguson at Manchester United in terms of longevity, but it shouldn’t be longevity for longevity’s sake.  It has to be the right guy in the job for 10 or 15 years and, in light of Andre’s age, he may well be that guy. Everyone thinks his age might have been a negative but it’s a positive.”

So far then, the omens look good for Villas-Boas, with his appointment bringing plenty of positives. Could it be that the Chelsea cup is half full?
