AVB Spot On About Support

We’re two games into the season and already the boos were ringing out around Stamford Bridge yesterday. Ok, I accept they were in the minority and thank God for that but seriously, wtf is that about? We’re not Arsenal, we don’t have our best players running for the exit, we are still signing good players, we were just having an off day for Christ sake.

Like anyone else, I had plenty to say during the game but there’s a distinct difference between having a bloody good moan between prayers and showing an absolute lack of support.  I mean, booing? Just embarrassing. Oh and before anyone wades in to tell me they pay their money which entitles them to an opinion, the fact is we’re all entitled to an opinion, how we choose to express that opinion however, is probably a more worthy topic of debate.

Andre Villas-Boas was clearly a bit taken aback by the hostility he picked up, suggesting it was an anxiety that crept down onto the pitch – and why wouldn’t it? Our players aren’t bloody deaf. After the game, the Chelsea manager said “To go past a season in the Premier League, where you have to win it back, you need the full support of everybody.  Everybody must get involved. You must feel the presence of the public in a supporting way.  This team wants to be champions again. The public wants to be champions and demands it. We are listening to their demands and we want to perform but we need their full support all the time.”

And the man is spot on. Chelsea have their work cut out this season, more than ever. Against both Manchester sides and with yet another new manager both to the club and the Premier League, we’ll have plenty of battles ahead. A lot of it won’t be pretty, in fact if it’s anything like yesterday’s first half it’ll be uglier than waking up next to Carlos Tevez but with even the home support on their backs, you might as well tuck the Argie midget in as well.

Get a grip people!

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
