A new addition for TheChelseaBlog for the 2011/12 season is the monthly ‘view from the top’. As painful as it might be for all concerned, TheChelseaBlog will be posing questions on Chelsea’s current form, individual performances, rivals and what any of this might mean, to Red blogger Scott from the Republik of Mancunia. Never backwards at coming forwards with his opinion, Scott should generate plenty of lively debate.
So, with the first games out the way, here goes:
TheChelseaBlog: So, a draw away at Stoke on the first day, you must’ve been pleased to see us drop points straight away?
Scott: Definitely. Any advantage you can get from the start is worth having, particularly considering the tricky fixtures we have in the opening few weeks. It doesn’t mean an awful lot though. Stoke away isn’t an easy fixture so it’s obviously not a disaster for Chelsea that they drew.
TCB: Did you see the game at all?
Scott: I watched bits. It was dull.
TCB: Personally, I think Torres looked much more like his former self, would you agree?
Scott: I think you should wait for more than one game before getting too excited about him. I’d have been a bit more worried if he’d scored on the back of that performance, as that would have done his confidence so much good. If he gets a goal soon, you imagine it could launch his Chelsea career, after the pathetic time he had last season. Obviously I’m hoping we have to wait some time before that goal comes.
TCB: Obviously. How do you think your first game went in comparison to potential challengers?
Scott: Well, we were one of the few top teams that won and the only one to win away from home, so I’m happy enough. There were some great moments but it did largely remind me of our drab performances on the road from last season. I hope we were just finding our feet though.
TCB: Any thoughts on how the first month of the season might pan out?
Scott: I don’t think there will be too many surprises. I’d rather we didn’t have to play Spurs, Arsenal and Chelsea in the first few games of the season, but there’s plenty of time for any team who slips up to catch up. In contrast, Chelsea are playing bottom half of the table teams, so our clash mid September could be crucial for both clubs when it comes to setting out their stall.
TCB: Now how did I know you’d mention those fixtures?
Cheers Scott, look forward to next month!
