Cech Pushes Fergie To Defend De Gea

With barely a ball kicked yet pre-season it seems Petr Cech is already trying to put the pressure on his opposition number in the North.

The Chelsea stopper no longer has competition from Edwin van der Sar but with United bringing in 20 year old De Gea, Cech is leaving United’s young keeper in no doubt what he’ll be up against, saying “It’s a huge advantage for Manchester United to have a goalkeeper who is 20 because he can stay for many years.  It’s a huge gamble at the same time because he’s joining, historically, a very successful club with great (former) goalkeepers like Peter Schmeichel, Edwin van der Sar, and we all remember how many years it took to replace Peter Schmeichel.  So let’s see what is going to happen now Edwin van der Sar has retired because it’s a huge task to fill the boots of Van der Sar.”

Fergie, who has previously signed the likes of Massimo Taibi, Fabien Barthez and Roy Carroll is having none of it though, arguing “I went to see Peter Cech when he was at Rennes. I said to myself, ‘Yeah, he’s too young’.  But Chelsea bought him at the end of the season for £7m and he’s never been out of the team.  So age doesn’t matter when you have the ability of a goalkeeper like Peter Cech or, we know, David De Gea.  David is young, he’s quick, he has fantastic presence and composure and his use of the ball is outstanding.”

Now, now gentlemen!

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
