Kalou: That ‘Dive’ & A Starting Place

kalou-vs-stoke

We seem to be hearing plenty in the press about Salomon Kalou leaving us, whether it’s us selling him in the summer or him leaving because he’s bored of the bench but after our win over Blackpool Monday night, that’s not what we’re hearing at all.

For a start, he’s having to defend himself from Holloway’s accusation that he ‘could not wait to fall over’ for the penalty and on that subject Kalou says “I felt that their defender was going to tackle the ball and so I put my body between him and the ball and he fouled me. Winning the penalty was a great moment for us. Blackpool were pushing hard and it was a very physical game so the penalty came at the right time.”

Kalou had come off the bench – possibly because Anelka couldn’t be bothered even taking his coat off – against Blackpool and won us a penalty that put us 2-0 up. And having put in the effort, Kalou seems to be hoping there’ll be a place at him for Chelsea after all, insisting “The manager asked me and Nicolas Anelka to warm up. And I wasn’t sure it was me who was coming on, but the most important thing is just to be ready for the team when they need you. I give my best and hopefully my time will come when I will be in the first 11. It is difficult because, when you don’t play for long and you get in the game, people expect you to make the difference all the time, but I am working hard on training and the players help me at training.”

Nice sentiments and it’s always good to see a player come off the bench and have an impact, still not convinced he could cut it consistently in the first XI though.

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
