What’s This About Carlo’s Roman Dream?

ancelotti-romaCarlo Ancelotti has been heavily linked to the Roma position following a run of poor form at Chelsea and Claudio Ranieri’s departure from the Roma job. The hugely inexperienced Vincenzo Montella has been appointed in his place with rumours rife the Italian club will soon be looking for someone of a higher profile.

“Coaching Roma,” said Ancelotti. “For the moment it remains a dream. It’s my dream and I’ve always said this, but for the moment it remains so. I feel good here (at Chelsea).”

But why is Ancelotti so keen on managing Roma?

Ancelotti spent the peak of his career at Roma after joining the club from Parma when he was 20-years-old. He spent eight years at the club, winning a Serie A title in 1983 and captaining them to four Coppa Italias. A re-occurring knee injury kept him out of the European Cup final in 1984 which Roma lost on penalties to Liverpool.

The only other clubs he played at were AC Milan and Parma, both of whom he has since gone on to manage. It stands to reason he would one day want to return to Roma but will it happen any time soon? According to him, no.
