TCB 2010 Awards: Most Promising Youngster

Nominees: Jeffrey Bruma, Gael Kakuta, Patrick van Aanholt, Josh McEachran.

Name: Jeffrey Bruma
Nationality: Dutch
Age: 19

On 20 February 2010, Bruma made his 2nd Premier League appearance, in the 2–0 victory at Wolves on 20 February 2010, where he was a 56th minute substitute replacing the injured Yuri Zhirkov. He came on for Alex against Blackpool on 19th September 2010 and played a whole 90 minutes in a Carling Cup match against Newcastle on 22nd September 2010.  Bruma is a touch tackling center back capable of playing as a right-back too. He’s comfortable on the ball, knows how to pass and isn’t shy of getting forward.

Name: Gael Kakuta
Nationality : French
Age: 19

Kakuta played his second Premier League game for Chelsea against West Ham on 11th September 2010, coming on as a substitute for Nicolas Anelka in the 76th minute. He also made an appearance in the Champions League match against MSK Zilina on 15 September 2010 and started in the League Cup on September 22nd against Newcastle, coming off at half-time. In our 2-0 win against Marseille, Kakuta provided the assist for John Terry’s seventh minute goal.

Name: Patrick van Aanholt

Nationality: Dutch

Age: 20

Following a month’s loan deal to Newcastle at the start of 2010, van Aanholt made his Chelsea debut, on 24 March 2010, in a 5-0 away win at Portsmouth, when he replaced Yuri Zhirkov at left-back.  His home debut came on 27 March 2010, against Villa in a 7-1 victory, again as a sub. He scored his first Chelsea goal on 22 September 2010 in a 3-4 defeat to Newcastle in the Carling Cup.

Name: Josh McEachran

Nationality: English

Age: 17

McEachran made his competitive first team debut for Chelsea against MSK Zilina on 15 September 2010 as a substitute.  McEachran made his home debut in a League Cup tie against Newcastle, again coming on as a substitute.  His Premier League debut came on 25 September in a 1-0 defeat to Man City and made his first start in the Champions League against MSK Zilina on 23rd November.

A future replacement for Frank Lampard, McEachran, even at just 17 is showing great potential.
