Kalou – The Chelsea kids are alright

Salomon Kalou thinks Chelsea have the right blend of experience and youth as they look to defend their Premier League title this season.

The West London club have been called a team ‘past-it’ and full of ageing stars by some critics this season, but often Carlo Ancelotti’s bench has featured teenagers.

The Italian manager has shown that he is not afraid of blooding youth by bringing Josh McEachran on as a sub in recent Premier League games, and the inclusion of some less-experienced players has not affected their Premier League title bid as they sit five points clear at the top. The football odds still make them strong favourites.

Kalou is only 25-year-old but he was a senior figure as Chelsea won their Champions League game in Moscow last week as the bench had a 20-year-old, two 19-year-olds, two 18-year-olds and a 17-year-old.

The Ivory Coast star claims there is a “good squad” at Chelsea – one capable of winning the Premier League title – and the kids around the fringes have shown in training they have a “great attitude” and are worthy of their place in the blue shirt.

“When they have the opportunity they are going to really show what they can do,” he said. “There is a combination between young players and old players and the old players try to give their experience to the young ones, and the manager knows how to bring the best out of the young kids.”

Kalou scored against Wolves to give Chelsea an increased advantage in the Premier League title bid and he has now stated he is determined to beat his previous best haul of 14 in a season and the Premier League betting predictions suggest he can do just that.

The forward has got six already this season, and had stated he harbours ambitions to get 20 goals to help Chelsea win both the Premier League and the Champions League.
