There were times over the past year when we could have been forgiven for thinking Jose Bosingwa had been buried under the Stamford Bridge turf somewhere. Knee surgery saw him out for what seemed an eternity and with little news on a return during the year, the worry was always that he could struggle with form if he did recover.
Saturday’s game against Wolves definitely went a long way to calming any of those fears though, with a storming performance that belied the fact he hadn’t started a game for a year. Carlo Ancelotti is certainly happy our right-back has made a convincing return to first-team action, stating “He played very well. I think Bosingwa was one of the best players on the pitch. He put a lot of pressure in the second half when he pushed up and he had opportunities to score. For 70 minutes he played very well and he’s an important player for us in the future because we can use his speed and resistance to play better in attacking play. It’s very difficult to come back after so long because he (needed a long) time for his recovery. But he was comfortable today to play. He was excited before the game and this is very good news for us.”
All I can add to that really is that Carlo’s right, Bosingwa was bloody good. Just like Essien really, Bosingwa’s return could well be likened to a new signing after so long without him. So whilst his return might have been a long time coming, if he sustains the sort of form he looked in on Saturday, it will have been well worth the wait!
