With Ramires impressing against Arsenal, Mikel and Essien being solid and our attack seemingly unstoppable at the Bridge, some of us may have forgotten about one of our best players…Frank Lampard.
The England International has been out with a couple of injuries as of late and will be looking to blend back into the team that has lost twice since his absence. Of course, Lampard is certainly considered a first choice player at Chelsea, who is never on the bench unless something big is up.
Mikel has already stressed how he is eagerly awaiting the return of the midfield goal machine and why not, he is an asset to any team that he is representing, being one of the few players to play decent at the summer World Cup for England.
However, Chelsea are going to have to soon adjust to life without Lampard because we all are aware of his age. Don’t get me wrong, he has a few years left but after that, the attacking midfield role will have to be handed to someone else, whether it is a player from the youth team or a new signing, is another matter.
The attacking vacancy in the Chelsea midfield was evident on Sunday against the Gunners, and it was due to a moment of magic and a thunderbolt strike that seperated the two London clubs from each other. Let us not forget Kalou and our new summer signing, Benayoun, who are both able to play as forward players, soon to return from similar injuries from the Carling Cup clash against Newcastle.
For the time being, we can all look forward to close recoveries for three of our attackers; Lampard, Kalou and Benayoun.
