TheChelseaBlog always welcomes the opinions of its readers and this season, has introduced guest writer slots, so here’s the opinion of Chelsea fan and TheChelseaBlog reader Gary Robertson on Carlo Ancelotti:
Carlo Ancelotti, bless his soul, has declared that he wants to stay at Chelsea until he is 75 and leapfrog Alex Ferguson as a longer serving manager in the Premier League. Talk about dedication and commitment.
This is truly great news for us Chelsea fans. However, will Roman agree to this sudden outburst of devotion? Let’s hope so because what we have now is a manager who is keen to set his life and career to Chelsea. But there is one slight concern about this whole affair. Ancelotti has stated that his dream would be to manage Italy one day. Well, we all have our dreams, don’t we? I wouldn’t be surprised if Alex Ferguson yearned to be Scotland manager one day, something that I wouldn’t mind, considering my nationality.
What does this mean for Chelsea then? This declaration of commitment symbolises the fact that if Ancelotti does stay for a few decades, we are going to see something which we have wanted to have for years-youth players.
After a season of thrills, we were half expecting some big signings to bolster our ageing squad. Ancelotti was having nothing of it. He believes in squad harmony and creating a playing style that is attractive to watch and also match winning at the same time. Hence the minor signings instead of the Aguero and Torres chronicles that were surfacing. Don’t get me wrong, there was some interest in signing Neymar but he is a player that is not going to come in and spoil the harmony that is building within the Chelsea dressing room.
If what Ancelotti wants eventually becomes a reality, then we can look forward to an exciting future full of youth development which could ultimately make us the best team in the world. I may seem to be getting ahead of myself here but I cannot hold back in my excitement for the prospects and potential that are being nurtured in the youth ranks.
All that needs to be done now, is play the youngsters.
