Well, as far as Carlo Ancelotti is concerned there won’t be anyone else coming in before the transfer window closes but will there be any more players going out?
What we’re hearing today is that there’s every possibility Franco Di Santo could be. When we saw the young Argentinean playing for the first team in pre-season games a couple of years ago, he had the look of a player with real potential. Bearing somewhat of a resemblance in his style of play to Hernan Crespo and with a price tag of £3.5million, it’s hardly surprising some of us had pretty high hopes for him. Unfortunately though, having spent most of his time out on loan since then, that potential we’d seen hasn’t really come to fruition and with Wigan interested in a deal worth around £2.5 million, it looks as if Di Santo could be on his way.
Another rumour we’re hearing is one concerning a loan deal for Patrick van Aanholt. The Dutch defender, who celebrated his 20th birthday yesterday, plays at either left or centre back and the suggestion is that Chelsea are considering a season long loan at Sheffield United.
Van Aanholt has already had loan spells at Coventry and Newcastle, where he went down particularly well and even made a couple of appearances for us last season, coming on to replace Yuri Zhirkov in our 5-0 win over Pompey and 7-1 win against Villa.
So, he’s obviously fancied by Ancelotti and considering we no longer have the services of Ricardo Carvalho, the preferred Sam Hutchinson was forced to retire, the less preferred Michael Mancienne is back out on loan already, and currently we have John Terry, Jose Bosingwa, Jeffrey Bruma and Branislav Ivanovic all nursing injuries, you’d have to say a loan spell for the youngster might not be in Chelsea’s defensive interests right now.
