Despite the Premier League season still being in its early stages, this campaign presents an opportunity for Chelsea to show that they are not only a good side, but one of the all time greats.
With the treble-winning Manchester United team and the Arsenal ‘invincibles’ the sides that Chelsea will need to sweep into the shadows to earn themselves the right to be seen as the greatest league side ever, manager Carlo Ancelotti will be aware that it won’t be easy to prove they are worthy of being mentioned alongside those teams. However, the latest football betting suggests that they could just do it.
With the club’s most successful manager, Jose Mourinho, dismissed for not leading Chelsea to inclusion in Europe’s elite quickly enough, Ancelotti will be more than aware that he doesn’t just need to win the league… he needs to win it in style.
With this campaign so far seeing high scoring victories, and a relatively kind Champions League draw, Blues’ owner Roman Abramovich will know that this may be the club’s best chance to go beyond the record book and create a sense of immortality for the current squad.
But how can they top the achievements of either winning the treble or going unbeaten for a season?
The Blues may aim to achieve both, something that may seem farfetched but is by no means impossible.
Failing this, winning the Champions League at Wembley against their main rivals Manchester United – or perhaps against European giants Real Madrid – would be enough to propel this side towards legendary status. And the football odds suggest this is possible, making the Blues amongst the favourites for European success.
If Ancelotti achieves this, then he may finally emerge from the shadow of Mourinho and become the greatest Chelsea manager ever.
