Chatting To The Opposition: West Brom Fan On Wolves, Relegation & Today’s Game

Ahead of the new season and today’s game, TheChelseaBlog has put a few questions to Iain over at West Bromwich Albion Mad.

TCB: Have any of the transfers surprised you over the summer?

WBAM: I’m surprised the Baggies haven’t made more summer signings to be honest.  I still feel we’re desperately short up-front going into the campaign.

TCB: Know the feeling, I’d kidded myself we’d sign Torres. Are there any players you’d have fancied signing?

WBAM: There are lots of players who could do a job at the Albion.  Ivan Klasnic would’ve been a good signing IMO.  We need somebody who knows where the back of the net is.  And more importantly, can find it on a regular basis in a struggling side.

TCB: Which club are you looking forward to playing most? And least?

WBAM: It’s been a few seasons since we played the Wolves so that’ll be a great occasion when we meet at The Hawthorns.  One team every Albion fan hates playing against is Stoke City.  It’s not because they are so unattractive to watch, it’s because they are our bogey team!  We’ve only beaten them once in about 24 matches I think.

TCB: Who can you see finishing in the top four and who’ll be possible relegation fodder?

WBAM: I think it’ll be the same candidates in the top four if I’m honest.  Chelsea, Man Utd and Arsenal with Liverpool, Spurs and Man City battling out for fourth.  There has been a lot of discussion about who our relegation rivals will be this summer.  The majority of Baggies fans think it’ll be out of ourselves, Wigan, Blackpool and Wolves.  Although there is always one team which seems to get dragged into the mix.  Maybe Blues or Newcastle.

TCB: Which club could be the Premier League’s dark horse?

WBAM: I’m hoping it’ll be Albion!  The board have yet to financially back RDM but he’s a talented young manager so fingers crossed.

TCB: So, which manager impresses you most?

WBAM: Roy Hodgson did a great job last season so it’ll be interesting to see how he goes.  Nobody else really stands out.

TCB: If you could have any of our players in your squad, who would you go for and why?

WBAM: I’d like to have more than just one!  At this moment in time I’d have to go for Drogba.  He acts like a girl in a playground but he’s bloody effective at what he does.

TCB: Playgrounds aside then, which player do you think will stand out for you?

WBAM: We’ve got a couple of players who might surprise people.  Graham Dorrans is obviously our star player at the moment – he was excellent last season!  Then there’s people like James Morrison and Gonzalo Jara. Summer signing Pablo Ibanez has represented Spain 20-odd times as well so we’re hoping for great things off him.

TCB: How do you think you’ll do when you play us?

WBAM: If we manage to get anything it’ll be a miracle!  A draw is the most we can dream for.  We certainly won’t roll over and die though.

TCB: And your prediction for today?

WBAM: I’ve got everything crossed for a 1-1 draw.

Cheers for that, won’t wish you luck for today though.
