Why Ancelotti Is Right Not To Splash The Cash

TheChelseaBlog always welcomes comments and opinions from supporters everywhere and another new feature this season will be regular posts from guest writers. Today’s contribution is from Chelsea fan Gary Robertson, so have a read:

Since around 2005, a large number of Chelsea fans have been solely content on success rather than youth development.  Who can blame them? Once you win the Premier League back to back, it is difficult to forget.  But what has always been disrespected by other teams is the way that we “bought success”.  Enter side stage: Carlo Ancelotti.

In a recent statement, Ancelotti said that the days of big money signings are over.  Let’s hope for the sake of the likes of Kakuta, Borini and McEachran that this is true.  However with the highly anticipated signing of Ramires almost a done deal from Portugese giants Benfica, we just wonder what to believe.

So why is he correct in having faith in the youngsters?  Well, for starters they won the 2010 FA Youth Cup which is a huge step for any youth team.  Secondly the new homegrown Premier League rule that is being introduced means that every EPL team must include at least eight homegrown players.  Which means the more foreign players that Chelsea buy, the less chance of a current player being included in the 25 man squad.  One positive to take from the new rule is that we will be able to restock our squad with as many under 21s on the 1st of January.

Ancelotti has proved that he can win the Premier League in a season, so now let’s hope he can make significant use of the hot prospects in the academy and win even more in seasons to come and give Chelsea fans a lot to be proud of.
