Chelsea Getting A New(ish) Recruit

With the exception of Benayoun, Chelsea don’t seem to have done a lot so far this summer. To be fair, last season we did do the double so maybe there isn’t too much to panic about but having let Joe Cole, Michael Ballack, Juliano Belletti and Deco all go, you’d think we’d need some new recruits…..or would you?

You see we have another newish recruit already – in the form of Michael Essien. After injury on international duty saw the Chelsea midfielder play just 14 games of our double winning campaign – and not make it back for the run-in as hoped – Essien should be ready for the start of the new season.

Both Michael Essien and John Obi Mikel missed out in the World Cup but Chelsea’s assistant coach Ray Wilkins says “There should be no problem whatsoever. Mikel is slightly in advance of Michael Essien but they are both working very well indeed.  They have been working double sessions for the last week and we will get them really firing before the season starts.”

We haven’t seen that much of Essien for the past two seasons thanks to international injuries but having missed out for Ghana in the World Cup, hopefully that means we’ll get him back good as new and every bit as fit as the form we saw him in for the few games he did make last season.

And if we can keep him that way for the 2010/11 season, we’ll have the luxury of another quality player in our midfield without splashing the cash.

Blue is the colour

TheChelseaBlog.org is an honest insight to the World of Chelsea FC. Not always pretty, sometimes rather cynical, but always realistic.
