Apparently Chelsea – alongside the usual suspects of Manchester United, Manchester City and Arsenal – have had their eye on Giorgio Chiellini lately but his manager is hinting the Juventus defender would plump for last season’s runners-up over us.
With Vidic not exactly certain of staying at United and Rio with a flexible sicknote, it was obvious Fergie wouldn’t be leaving himself with the same sort of defensive problems he faced last season and that certainly seems to be the case with him reported to be considering Chiellini’s £25million price tag.
So, whether or not Chelsea really have been interested in the 25 year old centre-back, it looks as if he wouldn’t be quite as interested in us, with his agents suggesting “United is a club and England is a country of great importance to us. We like them a lot. With Giorgio, we’ve decided that during the World Cup we won’t think about the transfer market. But after the World Cup, we will think about everything. He is honoured to be of interest to United.”
