We’ve apparently signed ourselves a new defender but don’t take that as gospel because it’s all a bit nudge-nudge-wink-wink.
Teenager Tomas Kalas from Sigma Olomouc certainly seems to have attracted plenty of attention, with Juventus, Inter Milan, Bayern Munich, Bayer Leverkusen, Arsenal and Chelsea all interested in him. A couple of those clubs had even thought they were likely to get him, with Arsene Wenger – renowned for his preference for young boys – alleged to have spoken to Kalas personally in an attempt to lure him to the Emirates. Bayer Leverkusen went one better and actually thought they’d reached an agreement with the 17 year old but rumour has it, he’s chosen the Premier League champions.
Like most of the stories in the press though, there doesn’t seem to be an awful lot to back it up apart from a statement on Sigma’s official site stating “A spell at a top European club for Tomas Kala was successfully arranged today”, and ‘reports in the Czech Republic’ suggesting it’s Chelsea who have paid £5million for him.
Kalas’ agent Pavel Zika definitely doesn’t want to give the game away, stating “Negotiations were very difficult and I am glad they are behind us now, especially for the good of the player. We cannot confirm the club’s name yet.”
So with no news from Chelsea either on this one, we really are none the wiser. And I’m even more confused than most, knowing absolutely nothing about the youngster – who in earlier reporting was said to be a keeper! Obviously extremely good at his defensive duties then 🙂
