I can’t quite make up my mind about these Torres rumours at the minute so maybe some of you can help me out a bit?
What we know is that we’ve been linked to him for a while. What we also know is that if he stays at Liverpool there’ll be no Champions League football for him, there’ll also be no Rafa Benitez although he might regard that as a bonus. And of course we know the figure of £70million is being bandied about in the press, with City obviously said to be prepared to pay it.
And that’s where the uncertainty comes into it for me because we’re also alleged to want Torres – to the extent that we’d be ready to do battle with the Eastlands lot – but I just can’t see it. Don’t get me wrong, he’s a great player, but £70million worth of great? I don’t think so. In fact, if Chelsea really are serious about their wage structure, they wouldn’t even consider this sort of deal nevermind get into a bidding war to pay it.
As for the player himself, whilst it goes without saying any transfer fee for him would have to be substantial, he came to the Premier League for £21m in 2007 but has his worth more than trebled since then?
I can’t see Torres staying at Liverpool now, I also can’t see him going to City despite the money but Chelsea for that sort of fee? I’m not buying into this particular story.
