Boateng Apology No Consolation For Ballack

Portsmouth midfielder Kevin-Prince Boateng has apologized to Michael Ballack for the tackle that put him out of this year’s World Cup.

I said in our FA Cup final review that after Ballack had got himself involved in a bit of handbags with Boateng, he lived to regret it when Boateng got his own back with a challenge that saw Ballack go off before the end of the first half. As it turned out, Ballack really has ended up regretting the tangle because it’s ruled him out of what would have been his last World Cup.

Obviously Boateng completely denies any intent whatsoever, and suggests “All I can do is apologise. I was just too late and I hit him straight on. It looked stupid. I apologised to him twice on the field and now for a third time. I am sorry. It was not intentional.”

Michael Ballack has responded by saying “Of course I am angry and it is disappointing. I don’t want to comment on it yet.” Which is probably very wise on his part bearing in mind being outspoken has caused him problems in the past. Mind you, given the bad luck he has with these tournaments you couldn’t blame him if he lost it a bit.

Still, at least on this occasion he has his double winning medals to console him eh?
