Pato in, Ivanovic Out For Chelsea?

The Italian press seem to be having a field day at AC Milan’s expense at the minute, with financial trouble again putting them in a position of being forced to sell off players in the summer. Needless to say then, the minute Pato’s name is mentioned, so is Chelsea’s.

He’s a player who’s been linked to us plenty of times in the past, particularly since Carlo Ancelotti’s arrival at Stamford Bridge anyway and with him rumoured to be up for grabs in the summer, it goes without saying two and two add up to five as far as the press are concerned.

Anyway, according to Corriere Dello Sport, we could be battling it out with Real Madrid for 19 year old Pato – as long as we’re prepared to fork out around £45 million plus a player. In our case, Branislav Ivanovic and in Real’s case Karim Benzema’s.

Personally, while I definitely think Pato’s a good player with a lot of potential, I don’t think it’s £45 million worth of potential and I certainly don’t consider Ivanovic to be ‘out of favour’ enough at Chelsea – as suggested in the press – to be given away on top of that sort of money. He might have come in initially to fill in for Bosingwa but the improvement in him, and his contribution this season surely can’t warrant being packed off to Serie A?
